Mother of Thousands
Kalanchoe daigremontiana, commonly called mother of thousands is a succulent plant native to the Fiherenana River valley and Androhibolava mountains in southwest Madagascar. It has been introduced to numerous tropical and subtropical regions, such as Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Venezuela, Israel, Argentina, Brazil.
The leaves of K. daigremontiana are thick, fleshy,lanceolate with pointed shape and purple-brown spots on the underside.
The most characteristic feature of this species is the method of reproduction The leaves grow tiny bulbils along its edges.
When the plantlets fall to the ground, they grow new plants hence the name mother of thousands.
